Texas Toast French Dips

Texas Toast French Dips are an easy, cheesy take on the classic French dip sandwich. Crispy garlic Texas toast is layered with tender deli roast beef and melted provolone cheese, then served with rich au jus for dipping. This quick dinner is perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 box frozen garlic Texas Toast, 8 slices
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 1 pound sliced deli roast beef
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • Dried parsley, for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven according to the package directions for the frozen garlic Texas Toast, usually around 425°F (220°C).
  2. Arrange the frozen Texas Toast slices on a baking sheet and bake according to the package directions until lightly golden and crisp.
  3. While the toast is baking, prepare the au jus. Whisk the au jus gravy mix with 3 cups of cold water in a saucepan.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, whisking occasionally, and cook according to the gravy packet directions.
  5. Remove the Texas Toast from the oven. Divide the sliced roast beef evenly among the 8 pieces of toast.
  6. Place one slice of provolone cheese over each portion of roast beef.
  7. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 2–4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Sprinkle with dried parsley if desired.
  9. Serve the Texas Toast French Dips immediately with warm au jus on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Bake the Texas Toast until crisp enough to hold the roast beef and au jus without becoming soggy too quickly.
  • Use thinly sliced deli roast beef for the easiest assembly and tender texture.
  • Provolone gives the sandwiches a classic French dip flavor, but Swiss cheese can also be used.
  • Prepare the au jus while the Texas Toast is baking to save time.
  • Serve the au jus hot in small bowls for easy dipping.
  • For extra flavor, add sautéed onions or mushrooms before adding the cheese.
