Tater Tot Hot Dish

Tater Tot Hot Dish is a cozy, family-friendly casserole made with seasoned lean ground beef, onion, celery, creamy celery soup, crispy golden Tater Tots, and melted cheddar cheese. It’s an easy one-dish dinner that comes together with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup sliced celery
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of celery soup, undiluted
  • 3 cups frozen Tater Tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley or chives, optional, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square or similar-sized baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and celery for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking up the beef as it cooks, until the beef is no longer pink and the vegetables are tender.
  3. Drain any excess grease from the skillet. Season the beef mixture with salt and pepper.
  4. Stir the condensed cream of celery soup into the beef mixture until well combined.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
  6. Arrange the frozen Tater Tots evenly over the top of the beef mixture.
  7. Bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes, until the Tater Tots are golden and crisp and the casserole is bubbling around the edges.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the Tater Tots. Return to the oven for 3 to 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  9. Let the hot dish rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or chives, if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra-crispy Tater Tots, arrange them in a single layer without overlapping.
  • You can use cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup instead of cream of celery if preferred.
  • Add a pinch of garlic powder or paprika to the beef mixture for extra flavor.
  • Use freshly shredded cheddar for the smoothest melt.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or air fryer for the best texture.
