Grilled Chicken Sandwich

This Grilled Chicken Sandwich is an easy, flavorful meal made with juicy seasoned chicken, fresh lettuce, tomato, and a creamy sauce served on a toasted bun. It’s perfect for a quick lunch, simple dinner, or satisfying summer meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese, optional
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken breasts dry. If they are very thick, gently pound them to an even thickness.
  2. Brush the chicken with olive oil and season both sides with garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
  4. Grill the chicken for about 5–7 minutes per side, or until cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. If using cheese, place a slice on each chicken breast during the final minute of grilling and allow it to melt.
  6. Mix the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard together to make the sandwich sauce.
  7. Toast the hamburger buns on the grill for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
  8. Spread the sauce over the toasted buns. Layer with lettuce, grilled chicken, tomato, and red onion.
  9. Top with the other bun and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use chicken breasts of similar thickness so they cook evenly.
  • For extra juicy chicken, avoid overcooking and use a meat thermometer to check for 165°F (74°C).
  • Add avocado, pickles, bacon, or your favorite sandwich sauce for extra flavor.
  • The grilled chicken can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
