Garbage Bread

This Garbage Bread is a hearty and cheesy stuffed bread loaded with seasoned ground beef, peppers, onions, garlic, ketchup, barbecue sauce, and melted mozzarella. Wrapped in refrigerated pizza dough and baked until golden, it’s an easy comfort food that’s perfect for dinner, parties, game day, or a satisfying family meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until they begin to soften.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Stir in the garlic, salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the ketchup and barbecue sauce. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture is well combined. Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  6. Unroll the pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently stretch it into a large rectangle.
  7. Spread the beef filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the filling.
  8. Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the seam and ends closed to keep the filling inside.
  9. Place the stuffed bread seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder.
  11. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
  12. Let the Garbage Bread rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Let the beef filling cool slightly before adding it to the pizza dough to make rolling easier.
  • Do not overfill the dough, as too much filling can make the bread difficult to seal.
  • Use your favorite mozzarella or a mozzarella-cheddar blend for extra cheesiness.
  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the beef mixture.
  • Allow the bread to rest before slicing so the melted cheese and filling can set slightly.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven or air fryer for the best texture.
