Creamy Garlic Butter Salmon Recipe

This Creamy Garlic Butter Salmon is a rich and comforting dinner featuring tender salmon fillets simmered in a smooth garlic Parmesan cream sauce. Fresh parsley and lemon juice brighten the sauce, making this an easy restaurant-style meal for any night of the week.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 salmon fillets, 5–6 oz each
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1½ cups heavy cream
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Juice of ½ lemon

Instructions

  1. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the salmon fillets and sear for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden on the outside and nearly cooked through. Transfer the salmon to a plate.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter to the same skillet.
  4. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30–60 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Cook for 3–5 minutes until it begins to thicken.
  7. Add the Parmesan cheese and stir until melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  8. Stir in the fresh parsley and lemon juice.
  9. Return the salmon fillets to the skillet and spoon the creamy garlic butter sauce over them. Simmer gently for 2–3 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through.
  10. Serve immediately with extra parsley and lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the salmon. It should be tender and flaky in the center.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the smoothest sauce.
  • Keep the cream at a gentle simmer rather than boiling vigorously to help prevent the sauce from separating.
  • For a thicker sauce, simmer it for an extra minute or two before returning the salmon to the skillet.
  • This salmon pairs well with rice, pasta, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
