Cilantro Beef Tacos

These Cilantro Beef Tacos are an easy, flavorful dinner made with tender flank steak, sautéed onion, jalapeño, garlic, fresh cilantro, lime juice, and salsa. Served in warm flour tortillas with your favorite toppings, they make a quick and satisfying taco night meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 beef flank steak (1 pound)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 teaspoons olive oil, divided
  • 1 medium onion, halved and sliced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup minced fresh cilantro
  • 2 teaspoons lime juice
  • Dash hot pepper sauce
  • 8 flour tortillas (6 inches), warmed
  • Optional toppings: salsa, cilantro, shredded lettuce, and sour cream

Instructions

  1. Pat the flank steak dry and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the flank steak and cook for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until it reaches your preferred doneness. Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  3. While the steak rests, heat the remaining 2 teaspoons of olive oil in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook for 4–5 minutes, until softened and lightly golden.
  4. Add the chopped jalapeño and minced garlic. Cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently.
  5. Stir in the salsa, fresh cilantro, lime juice, and hot pepper sauce. Cook for 1–2 minutes until heated through.
  6. Thinly slice the flank steak against the grain. Add the sliced beef to the skillet and toss gently with the salsa mixture.
  7. Warm the tortillas and fill each with the cilantro beef mixture. Top with additional salsa, cilantro, shredded lettuce, and sour cream if desired.
  8. Serve immediately with extra lime wedges or salsa on the side.

Notes

  • Slicing the flank steak against the grain helps keep the beef tender and easy to eat.
  • For more heat, leave some jalapeño seeds in or add extra hot pepper sauce.
  • You can substitute corn tortillas for flour tortillas if preferred.
  • For the best texture, serve the tacos immediately after assembling.
  • Leftover beef can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated gently in a skillet.
